PowerFlex Fault F012 — HW Overcurrent
What This Fault Means
F012 indicates the drive's hardware overcurrent protection tripped. The instantaneous current exceeded the drive's rating, shutting down the output to protect the IGBTs.
Common Causes
- Short circuit in motor cables or motor windings
- Ground fault between motor leads and conduit
- Drive undersized for the motor load
- Acceleration time set too aggressively
- Damaged or degraded IGBT module inside the drive
Recommended Fix
- Disconnect the motor cables at the drive output terminals and megger-test the motor (should read >1 MΩ to ground).
- Check motor cable insulation for damage, especially at conduit entries.
- If motor and cables pass, increase the acceleration time (Parameter 42 on PF525).
- Verify the drive's rated current matches or exceeds the motor FLA on the nameplate.
- If F012 recurs with no motor connected, the drive's IGBT module has failed — replace the drive.
