Yaskawa Fault GF — Ground Fault
What This Fault Means
The GF fault means the drive detected a ground fault on the output side. Current is leaking from the motor circuit to ground, indicating an insulation failure.
Common Causes
- Damaged motor cable insulation (conduit rub, chemical exposure)
- Motor winding failure to ground
- Moisture inside the motor or cable
- Long output cable without dV/dt filter
Recommended Fix
- Disconnect motor cables from the drive.
- Megger each phase to ground — expect >1 MΩ.
- If the cable fails, isolate cable from motor and test each separately.
- For cable runs >50m, install a dV/dt filter or output reactor.
- Check the motor junction box for moisture and re-seal.
